meningitis in my legs?

THIS POST I WROTE IN JANUARY….IN HOSPITAL…IN THE THROES OF MENINGITIS!

No I haven’t been on for a while.

All the while since I leaked CSF about ten days ago, after the surgery for decompression which was 4 weeks today , doctors have been Chasing blood tests and CSF sMples.

The white cells and something else which meant double Dutch to me -parameters of measuring the CSF and how much infection is in it.

So it seems when I came this week my white cell count in the brain fluid was very high.
The second and third samples results held or fell marginally. Then on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday we took more and was waken on Tuesday night.

The numbers and markers had risen dramatically. We were now treating bacterial meningitis.

Very strong IV antibiotic while the microbiologists are still trying to slowly incubate the precise sample. I’d they do find it we have up to 6 weeks on IV If not a fortnight IV.

Obviously because I must have been a mass murderer in a previous life i have still to compound it all with a few
MORE weeks then to check infection remains clear and that I finishing off with shunt inserted inbest possible circumstances

So MENINGITIS
Pain
Headache
Intense
Severe
Body pains
Leg and back pain
Shuffling across bed agony
Whichever part of moves against the bed hurts20140206-103345.jpg
Temperature spikes
Sharp pains
Neck moving pains
Eyes burning
Piddling hurts your head
Chewing hurts your head
Opening you eyes is a killer.

That’s this week
Want to go home
All better
To my little men.

Be

Prayers please.

NOW it’s mid july

and i do NOT have meningitis anymore.

i had it for about 5 weeks and it made inserting a VP shunt weeks longer away

now i have “healed” to a decent enough stage…

wounds healed..

MRI due to check all is funtioning..

YES still have my chiari

YES still have pain symptoms and neurological symptoms

HAVE also a LOT more eye trouble

BUT MY LEGS ACHE!…

am starting to wonder is it a weakness due to chiari –

or a residual reminder of meningitis…

anyone any thoughts?

  1. I would never usually add a personal link to someone else’s post, but my partner had Meningitis exactly 1 year ago. He did not have it as badly as you, he only showed the slightest Bacterial infection which was definitely an add-on to the viral. But yes, today he had to go and sit down, and then after only 40 minutes walking around the Imperial WAr Museum North, he’d had enough. It is debilitating, and the effects last a while, but they are always getting better, even now xx It will come back xx

    • i had 9 weeks and 3 operations in total…. but a month on the antibiotics…
but i really did find the legs a BIG symptom that i was not expcting during the meningitis…
and am about 5-10 minutes and need chair…
am flummoxed as it CAN be part of the chiari condition but is so definite and ongoing m wondeing if it is a legacy of the infection…
so am delighted to hear it can be!
makes me a bit less alone

      • Awww Helen, it is an awful time and you’ve been so incredibly ill. You really have to just go with it as Elizabeth says, relax and know you can’t do it at the moment, but it’ll come back. What you describe is normal, and is a Meningitis symptom. One of the giveaways that something was very wrong with my partner was the pain in his legs, and he still has it although very much reduced, and 2 months ago noticeably worse than now.
I know it’s comfort that what you feel is normal, but I also know that doesn’t make it hurt any less, or give you any more energy xx

  2. am relieved that rather than sitting here feeling shattered it feels right to try a wheelchair this week to be able to be OUT for a day with the family…
is amazing how they responded- kids were so happy. but is a big change for me… 😦
and does NOT help metabolism and weight and is all a lovely vicious circle!
